Scott McElroy
Professor – Turfgrass/Weed Science at Auburn University

Since 2014, Scott has been the Professor of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences at Auburn University in Alabama. Scott's professional and academic record speaks for itself, including a number of years as Assistant Professor for Plant Sciences at the University of Tennessee, an Associate Professor for the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences and has been an executive board member of the European Turfgrass Society (International) between 2012 and 2016.


Jamie Scott 

BPHED (Physical Activity & Health), BSC (Human Nutrician)

Hailing from the South Island of New Zealand, Jamie trained in the sciences of Physical Activity & Health, and Human Nutrition, both through the University of Otago. He spent the first decade of post-grad life working as a personal trainer, rehabilitation assistant, and as a nutrition consultant, working with a range of individuals and groups. After leaving the fitness industry, Jamie became a health researcher, writer, and presenter for one of New Zealand's largest organisational health and well-being companies.


Dr Karen Faisandier

Director – The Integrative Practice

With a Doctorate in clinical psychology, Dr Karen Faisandier is the Director of an integrative psychology practice based in Wellington. Conventionally trained in Clinical Psychology, her interest in nutrition in health care led her into the study of nutritional and environmental medicine and its application to modern psychology to assist with optimising individual wellbeing and vitality.


John Neylan

John has a degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Melbourne and has worked in the turf industry for over 35 years.

John has extensive experience in undertaking research and consultancy with a wide range of clients including golf, sportsfields, racetracks and local government and has expertise in soils, drainage, water management and turfgrass selection and evaluation. In recent years, John has been pursuing his interest in the areas of herbicide resistance and control of Poa annua as well as undertaking a number of research projects.


Carmen Margo

Vice President, Agronomy at Stevens Water Monitoring Systems

A former Golf Course Superintendent, Carmen Margo has over 20 years' experience in developing predictive models based on trending and current conditions relating to plant performance on golf courses and sports turf facilities, Carmen has broadened this knowledge to apply that practical expertise to improving yields in Agriculture, Sportsfields, Golf Courses and and aesthetics in commercial landscape applications.


Billy Koopmans

2016 AGCSA Graduate of the Year Award

Since being names Graduate of the Year at the 2016 Australian Turfgrass Conference, former Ballarat Golf Club apprentice Billy Koopmans has had what can only be described as a career-changing past 15 months. Koopmans attended the Winter School for Turf Managers at the University of Massachusetts at the start of the year, prior to starting a seven month internship through The Ohio Program at Liberty National Golf Club, USA.


Sam Keats

Assistant Superintendent, Royal Wellington Golf Course

With over 10 years experience in the industry, Sam brings a fresh approach and understanding to the profession of Greenkeeping. With varied experiences as an Apprentice at Royal Wellington, time spent at Merion Golf Club as part of the Ohio Program in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, through to his continued rise to Assistant Superintendent at Royal Wellington, Sam embodies the philosophy of making the Career in the Turf industry memorable.


Guy Chapple

Director at Golf Business Group

Guy has worked in the golf industry since 1991 and has held the most senior management positions at Caloundra, Croydon, Rosanna and Yarra Yarra golf clubs. He has a comprehensive understanding of successful golf facility operations and development. With a desire to be involved and influence the broader golf industry, Guy established Well Played in late 2011 to provide golf facilities, golf clubs and golf-related organisations with genuine, practical and experience-based consultancy services.

Brendan Allen
Course Superintendent & General Manager, The Hills Golf Club

Brendan Allen has been at The Hills for 15 years. He currently holds the dual role of GM-superintendent. His management philosophy has always been to develop a culture that creates a happy staff and productive team. Brendan is the immediate past president of the NZGCSA and was also the recipient of the associations 2010 Excellence Award.

Leo Barber

Course Superintendent & General Manager, Paraparaumu Golf Club

Leo performs the dual role of Course Superintendent and General Manager at the Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club, on the West Coast of New Zealand's North Island. Barber is a former board member of the NZGCSA and in 2007 won the NZGCSA Excellence Award for his work at the course. Thanks to the great work of Leo and his team, PBGC truly earns is spot in the ranks as one of New Zealand's great courses.


William Brown

Director of Brand Development at Aqua-Aid Inc

Graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Turfgrass Science, William has an excellent understanding of how business strategies and well-honed executive and communication skills can assist Golf Course personnel in improving their Social Media profile. Having served as the Golf Course Superintendent and Regional Agronomist for some of the top courses in the Mid-Atlantic region, Bill's understanding of technology and social media background has made him the leading export in the Turfgrass industry and was recently named to Golf Inc's list of Most Innovative People In Golf.

David McGeary
Senior Turf Consultant, ETP Turf

McGeary has been a turf consultant and associated with the golf turf industry since 1989, following eight years as a research scientist with the Victorian Department of Agriculture. McGeary has extensive experience in all facets of golf and turf consultancy, with special reference to on-site problems solving, disease diagnostics, golf course and sports field audits, construction design, formulation of tenders and construction supervision.

Albie Legget
Senior Territory Sales Manager at Syngenta Australia and New Zealand

With over 20 years' experience working in the Sports Turf industry, across a varied range of Technical, Diagnostic and R&D role, Albie is currently the Senior Territory Sales Manager at Syngenta. Holding a Master's Degree in Agriculture (Turf Management) and with this extensive career in the industry, Albie combines theory and experience to a practical approach to modern Turf Management.

Bruce Macphee
Senior Agronomist, AGCSATech

Bruce has over 30 years' experience in the turf industry and joined the AGCSA in June 2016. Bruce's turf management career began as an apprentice at Patterson River Golf Club in the mid-1980s and after completing that had small stints at Dandenong Central Bowling Club and Devil Bend Golf Club. In 1993 he joined Peninsula Country Golf Club, rising to the role of assistant superintendent (five years) and superintendent (two years). Between 2002 and 2012 Bruce was a sports turf management lecturer at Chisholm Institute of TAFE where he taught the Certificate III Sports Turf Management and Parks and Gardens and was also responsible for the development and delivery of the Diploma in Sports Turf Management.


Michael De Luca

Technical Manager, Syngenta

With a background in Agronomy, Michael has spent a number of years in and around the Turf industry; covering everything from Golf Courses, to Sportsfields and Racecourses – and everything in between. Having spent time in both New Zealand as an Agronomist for NZ Sports Turf Institute, and most recently in Australia as Technical Manager for Syngenta Australia and New Zealand, Michael brings with him a broad knowledge regarding managing and maintaining Sportsfields in Local Government environments.


Vickie Crowe

A senior Human Resources and Behavioural profiling professional with 20 years' experience in the corporate sector, Vickie has a background covering HR, Recruitment, Training and Behavioural Science into her role as HR adviser for the PGA of Australia. The PGA of Australia is the second oldest Professional Golfers Association in the world and proudly forms part of the PGA World Alliance.

Gary W. Beehag

Gary began his career in the turf industry in 1970 and holds qualifications in greenkeeping, horticulture and pest control and a Diploma of Technical Teaching. Gary was employed at the Australian Turfgrass Research Institute (Sydney) as a turfgrass consultant from 1987 to 1998 and then pursued full-time roles in technical sales and support until 2015. An industry stalwart, Gary is a regular contributor to industry magazines and journals, presents at state, national and international seminars and conferences and has recently co-authored a book on Pest Management.

Peter McMaugh

As the pre-eminent authority on turfgrasses in Australia, Peter commands a high international reputation in all matters of turf.
Peter's achievements cover the entire turf spectrum and include founding and directing the Australian Turf Research Institute (ATRI), developing the drop-in wicket in the early days of one-day cricket, project managing the 'turfing' of major sporting venues across Australia and jointly developing and breeding numerous couch, buffalo and zoysia varieties.
After spending 53 years (and counting) in the turf industry, Peter is still actively researching and consulting. In his own words, the thing he is most proud of is "still working in an industry in which I was the first scientist to work full time in Australia."

With a background in turf management as a golf course manager/greenkeeper in both the UK and NZ this practical application in his trade underpins Will's passion for driving enhanced turf performance through a combination of applied common sense and robust scientific analysis. Most recently, his role as the Manager of Research and Agronomy within the Sports Surface Design & Management (SSDM) Turf Consultancy group has seen Will develop the concept and establish the dedicated turf trial, laboratory and research facility in Auckland.

I get to lead the develop and management of quality assurance frameworks for recreation management, that incorporates relevant standards and benchmarks, defines a core set of industry level KPIs, and articulates what 'well managed' looks like. These responsibilities will be primarily focused on driving outcomes for the Parks & Open Space sector within New Zealand.
